Medium: 3D Printed White Gold

Custom engagement ring designed using my knowledge of computational design tools, while exploring jewelry design for the first time. The gold band twists, branches and expands, eventually turning into the prongs that converge around the stone.

Using Grasshopper and Rhino, I iterated through dozens of designs, allowing me to explore many options for my most important design yet, even before knowing my wife’s ring size.

Sliding parameters control band width and profile, and allowed me to study subtle changes in the band’s twist and bulge, which otherwise would be time prohibitive.

Initial Render

I used Rhino and Grasshopper to create multiple iterations. This allowed me to make changes in the ring's twists and bulges throughout the design.

The box was custom made by hand, with a resin-printed holder that has an imprint of the ring for it to sit snugly in.
