The Feature Wall for Daniel Boulud's restaurant, Le Pavillon, serves as a subtle and elegant backdrop to the warm intimacy provided by Isay Weinfield's design. A field of wood lines runs the 200' of restaurant, and climb up to 70' high.

The ruled surface is interrupted by a series of rifts that ripple across the wall. The result is a textured background in motion, only revealed through glimpses and at a distance.

The feature wall's dynamic flow of curved wood members is created using image mapping, adding a mesmerizing visual effect to the space.
Precise control of spacing and curvature on the feature wall creates a sense of harmony and movement.

A hint of chaos is introduced through the use of noise on the sampled image, resulting in organic and visually striking features.

Curves are created along the desired flow using parameters relating to length, max deviation, and desired amount of curved members.
This level of precision and attention to detail allows for multiple iterations of the design to be quickly produced and evaluated.

The output geometry dictates the amount, spacing, and magnitude of the curved wood members that make up the feature wall.

The use of parametric design gave us control over the amount and variation of custom wood members. This information was used to communicate with contractors to evaluate feasibility and cost.

The fluid lines and curves, organic clusters, and precise bends, all controlled through the use of parametric design, create a visually striking and dynamic work of art that adds to the overall ambiance of the restaurant.

The feature wall is witnessed only in vignettes, through the intimacy of the space designed by Isay Weinfield.

Le Pavillon has been awarded a Michelin Star.
